Foundry is a framework that is aimed at helping you build your site to your needs from the ground up. To do this it uses a set of modular stacks, combined with a blank theme. That theme contains some of the necessary code for the overall Foundry framework. Because of this Foundry will not work properly within themes other than the theme that comes with your Foundry purchase.

Likewise, Alloy relies on Foundry's underlying code for its layout, design and formatting. This is so that it can be more efficient and not duplicate code. Because of this Alloy must be paired with Foundry, and the Foundry theme to properly work.

You’re seeing the hidden stacks in your library. Foundry, and many other stacks addons, are composed of several stacks which have child stacks nested within them. These child stacks are hidden by default because they’re not usable by you, the end user, outside of their parent stack(s). Those parent stacks have their own way of adding these child stacks, which you don’t have to handle or worry about. This makes things easier on you.

Seeing these stacks that have no icons indicates that you have the Show Hidden Stacks feature turned on for some reason in your Stacks Library settings. Turn that feature off and you’ll be good to go. There is really no reason, outside of being a developer, that you’d need that feature turned on for the most part.

You can find this setting in the Stacks Library settings, which is accessed at the bottom of the Stacks library, as seen below.

If you’ve forgotten to backup your purchased themes, stacks or icons and have lost them somehow, either through some sort of computer problems, or just an accident, fret not you can retrieve them all on your own.

Simply go here to our order lookup form and supply us with the necessary information and our automated system will retrieve them for you. If you do not get results from the retrieval form it may be likely that you used a different email address to purchase your theme than the one you’re entering. Give the form another try with any alternate email addresses you may have had in the past as well.

If you still cannot find your download links it may be that PayPal just hasn’t passed off the processing information to us yet. Give it an hour or so. In the unlikely event that your email for download link still has not arrived please send us an email using our contact form.

You can, without a doubt, use other 3rd-party stacks within Foundry. We work hard to make sure most stacks outside of Foundry will work with it. With so many third-party stacks out there though, there’s no way for us to possibly know, or list them all. If you have a question about a specific stack, be sure to post your question over on the Foundry Forum.

When it comes to RapidWeaver themes we do not suggest modifying a theme's internal code directly. The best practice for customizing the look and feel of your pages with a theme is to use the Page Inspector’s Styles tab to adjust the theme variations that come built in to each theme.

If you need to adjust a theme beyond what is possible through these theme variations you can provide your own, custom CSS or javascript in the Custom CSS and Custom Javascript fields located in the Header tab of RapidWeaver's Page Inspector. We suggest only doing so though if you have a good grasp of the coding language you're working with.

Please note: We do not provide support for problems that arise from code modifications, whether directly to a theme or through the CSS code fields in the Page Inspector.

Most likely, your CSS files did not get fully uploaded during the publishing of your site by RapidWeaver, for whatever reason. This is an easy fix though, so there’s no need to fret.

Simply use the Republish All Files feature in the RapidWeaver Publishing drop down. This will cause RapidWeaver to republish all of the files associated with your project and force those stubborn CSS files to upload that may have been missed by the app previously.

Many of our themes offer you the ability to add a banner image of your own through the RapidWeaver resources or through the Banner Image Drop Zone in the RapidWeaver settings.

When using the older Resources method there are a few things you must make sure you do in order for the browser to display your banner properly:

Banner Image Filenames

When using a theme that supports the RapidWeaver Banner Image Drop Zones you'll need only to drag and drop your image into the image drop zone. These drop zones are located in the General settings for the site-wide banner image and in the Page Inspector for the page specific banner overrides.

You cannot place the Alloy Control Center stack in a Partial. Alloy uses page-wide Stacks variables which cause problems with Partials. If you’re interested in more in-depth details we have a blog post about it here.

To correct this make sure that you remove your Control Center stack from within the Partial on any page where you’re using it. Double-check that your Posts folder is configured how you want it after you've removed it from all Partials. Now save your project file and then, just out of an abundance of caution, quit and restart RapidWeaver. Once you re-open your project file you’ll want to do a “Republish All Files” from to ensure everything gets republished to your server.

Alloy is built to be used with Foundry only. Alloy uses some of the underlying code found in the Foundry framework to ensure that it is a lightweight blogging solution. By using Foundry's structural code it prevents us from loading additional structural code solely for Alloy, which reduces the footprint of your page, making it faster for you and your visitors.

If your content is getting cut off it indicates you have too much content in the content side of the stack. The content area is the same height as the image that it resides next to. Any content that would overflow this area is hidden on purpose to make sure the two sides line up as evenly as possible.

The solution would be to decrease the amount of content in the content side of the stack, reducing it until it fits fully next to the image.

There are many tools available that allow you to reduce the size of your JPEG and PNG images by compressing them. This allows your images to load faster, and in turn helps your pages to load faster. Our favorite tool for doing this is a free site called TinyJPG. It does a fantastic job of compressing your image files, whether they're JPGs or PNGs.

Another fantastic tool for image compression is Squash. It is great if you'd like to have an app on your computer vs using a site to perform your compressions.

One thing to keep in mind when preparing your images for the web is that your images should be 72 dpi and should be of a reasonable size when it comes to their dimensions. Try not to make your images larger than they need be.

Sub-pages, or child pages, are relatively easy to create in RapidWeaver. You’ll first need to have at least two different pages created in RapidWeaver to get started.

To create the sub-page you’ll want to click on and drag the page you wish to make into a sub-page onto the page you wish to make it a child of.

The number of sub-pages varies depending on the theme you’re using, as does the way in which the sub-pages are displayed in the navigation. Some themes will display sub-pages as a drop down navigation, others the sub-pages will be available to your visitors only on the parent pages where the sub-page(s) reside.

If you’ve been using RapidWeaver for any amount of time you’ve likely wanted to copy text from one source, whether that be a document on your desktop, or another website, and paste it into your RapidWeaver project file for one of your pages.

When you did this though you likely brought along all manner of extra formatting and such that you don’t really want, or to be honest need. How do we avoid this though? It’s pretty simple, you just need to know where to look.

You likely simply pasted your content into your page using the standard CMD + V or you went to the edit menu and selected Paste. Pasting your content into your page without all the formatting is just as easy, we just need to learn a new key stroke to paste without formatting: CMD + OPTION + V. You can also choose Paste as Plain Text from the Edit menu in RapidWeaver as well to achieve the same results. This tells RapidWeaver to strip out all of the formatting before it pastes your content into the page.

Like building any other site on the internet you should start with a clear vision of what you hope to accomplish and how you want your site structured. Thinking about your site’s design before jumping into actually build it will save you a lot of time down the road.

You’ll want to think about the focus of your site, along with how you want to organize your pages. Writing out a list of pages you’re going to need to build, along with sketching out a general guideline for yourself of how you want your page(s) to be structured will give you a huge jumpstart as well as a clear vision of where you’re going with your site.

This can definitely be done. Using just one meta tag in your site's Code settings you can turn off phone number linking. Below is a screenshot of what you can add to your meta code in RW ro achieve this:

When using a stack like the Navigation Bar, Mega Menu or Navigation Bar Pro stack in Foundry you can make use of SVG images for your site logo.

To do so, drag-and-drop your SVG image into RapidWeaver's Resources section. After doing so, use the "Remote" image option for your logo in the navigation stack(s). This allows you to link to a file on your server or in the RW Resources. In this case we'll click the link button and set the link to the SVG image we added in our Resources section.

The breadcrumb trail is a secondary form of navigation provided by RapidWeaver. It’s location within a theme can vary depending on the theme’s layout and design. The toggle for turning the breadcrumb on site-wide is located within RapidWeaver’s Site Setup however. The toggle is found under the Advanced tab in the Site Setup. Toggling it on tells RapidWeaver to allow the theme to use the breadcrumb in its layout.

Note that some themes allow you to toggle the breadcrumb on and off on a per-page-basis. The breadcrumb will still need to be enabled in the Site Setup for this to work.
