I need some help with overlap

I am currently trying to recreate this overlap header with Foundry3

it looks simple, but I haven’t really been able to recreate it successfully with a column/grid + overlap.

I guess that columns/grid + overlap are not the right tools to recreate the header like this. does anyone have any hints or ideas on how I could do this?

Here is the live url to the website with the header.

many thanks for your help,
pegasus

so far I have been able to recreate this

but i still have problems with the position of the header. how can i move the header to the left without losing the overlap?

also attached is a link to the project file. anyone who is interested is welcome to take a look and may have a tip for me.

thx!

Hi, the link to the project file is not working. Can you check again, please or use wetransfer.com and send it to hallo@einfach-gute-webseiten.de ?

thanks! @Fuellemann

link is fixed :slight_smile:

@Pegasus Use a second overlap with the reverse direction for the content in the card stack:

dankeschön :slight_smile:

i think I’m on the right why now!

unfortunately, I have another new problem.

I have now added a “badge box”. However, the “overlap” has been lost as a result.
@Fuellemann maybe an idea what the reason for this could be or is that not possible at all?

The badge box seems to be overlaying the overlap. If there is a z-index try to make the overlap one higher (or use blacksmith for this)

Hi @Pegasus
just had a look at your project file. Honestly I was not able to solve the problem in the way you did it. But I guess the core issue is using a “double” overlay in the columns stack. But it’s guessing. I was redoing your columns shortly putting an overlap element below the table and shift it upwards and a bit to the right.

looks like below (I left the border and the shadows so that you can see the “Overlap box”

And in Edit mode

Here is the project file for download
overlap-header_v0.9.4.zip (180.5 KB)

Hope that helps :slight_smile:

BTW: Your RW project file was infected by the Stacks Externals Bug. I cleaned it up and reduced the file site from 128 MB to 185 KB. You once told me that your RW files are very large. Guess that’s the problem.

Hi @WeaverPixel could you please explain how you cleaned up the stacks bug ?

Hi @Bruno, I do this with all the projects before I load them in my RW, to prevent all my files gets “infected” over time. It simply saves a lot of space and the project files load much faster. In the above case it brings the file down from 128 Megabyte to some Kilobyte.

Thank you for your response but I can’t figure out how you do that. Maybe you could explain it ( the process I mean). Newbie question :grinning:

@Bruno, no that’s no newbie question :slight_smile:
I was also not aware of this issue but it’s bloating over time your RW files. I got some months back a hint from @mitchellm and a short video how to solve it. @mitchellm as it is your video, is it ok for you to share it via PM to interested people?

And maybe if we continue with this discussion, we should open a new thread not capturing this one here :slight_smile:

Feel free to share video … I just woke up where I live and have a busy day ahead.

an interesting direction the thread is taking …

@Fuellemann and @WeaverPixel
… but first dankeschön :wink: for the feedback! I have already played around with the z-index but have not yet been successful. next i will try it with blacksmith …

@WeaverPixel
i am also interested in the video! one of my projects is unzip almost 10gb large and zip 3.5 gb. i know this is very big. but the project also has almost 1,200 pages ^^

if I can save some space by tidying up the project, that would certainly be helpful :slight_smile:

thx and regards!
pegasus

Thanks @mitchellm

here is the link to a video showing what steps you have to do take to get rid of all the bloat. It works for me all the time without creating any problem. But needless to say, backup your files first if something goes wrong.

The file is on my Dropbox, hope you all have access to it.

@mitchellm @WeaverPixel Thank you very much both of you for this invaluable method. Now I’m not afraid anymore to open more than one project at time. :+1:

Just remember that externals are eternal!

BTW Isaiah does not like this way of fixing the issue. But he also provides no alternative way for us to fix, or for him to correct the behavior.

But as has been said it’s super important to work on a copy of the original. Keep the orginal in storage in case something “weird” happens. But I have never experienced any problems over several years now.

Keep in mind how “infections” occur: it only seems to happen if you have 2 projects open at the same time and one of them contains externals. Then “stuff” passes from one to the other. Thus I rarely have more than 1 project open. This is mainly a problem when I’m opening someone else’s project to help … I don’t know in advance if they have externals … so I take precautions.
